General Details
Client: Tastebar Boston
Project Type: Restaurant Website Migration & WordPress Development
Scope: Custom WordPress theme development, menu management system, events integration, online ordering support
Platform: WordPress (_underscores-based custom theme)
Launch: 2021
Project Overview
Tastebar Boston required a more flexible website solution after outgrowing an existing static HTML implementation.
Working as part of Someone Creative’s development team, the project involved rebuilding the website in WordPress while preserving the existing visual design and improving the client’s ability to manage frequently changing restaurant content internally.
The goal was to create a more maintainable system for menus, events, and customer interaction without disrupting the established look and feel of the site.
Project Summary
The original website was built as a static site, making routine updates to menus and event information unnecessarily difficult for the client team. To improve long-term maintainability, the site was rebuilt as a custom WordPress theme using the existing HTML and CSS structure as the foundation for development.
Menu pages were reworked using Advanced Custom Fields repeater systems, allowing food and drink items to be added, edited, or removed while maintaining the site’s existing presentation and layout structure.
The website also included recurring food and wine tasting events, requiring a flexible way to manage event scheduling and display upcoming event details. To support this, an events management system was integrated into the site to allow staff to update event information internally as new events were planned.
Later in the project’s lifecycle, additional functionality was added to support online ordering through a custom form-based ordering system integrated into the website.
The overall approach focused on preserving the client’s existing brand presentation while significantly improving usability and day-to-day content management.
Project Role
Working as part of Someone Creative’s development team, I rebuilt the original static website as a custom WordPress theme while preserving the existing front-end design and styling.
My role included custom theme development, Advanced Custom Fields implementation, events system integration, ongoing functionality updates, and later development work related to online ordering support.
A significant part of the project focused on making the website easier for the restaurant team to manage internally while maintaining consistency with the original site design.
